SUMMARY (08/05/2012): 23 martyrs have fallen today including 4 women and a child, mostly in Idlib and Homs. The general strike continues for a second day in most of Daraa province and in Hama. As usual Assad’s forces broke into shops to try to stop the strike. Meanwhile, both Kofi Annan and Ban Ki Moon spoke of the dangers of a “full scale civil war” in Syria. At the moment we “only” have shelling by tanks, artillery and helicopters, mass arrests, torture, summary executions, kidnapping, looting, theft and vandalism, displacement, homelessness, rising unemployment, starvation and deprivation. Isn’t the situation already bad enough and more importantly what has Annan’s stillborn peace plan done to improve it?
