SUMMARY (02/07/2012): At least 105 martyrs fell today, mostly in Homs and Hama as it looks like the regime’s strategy is shell everything that stands. Today revealed the horror of “cleansed” Duma while most of eastern suburbs of Damascus are still being attacked. Similar stories in Homs, Hama, Daraa, Idlib, Deir Ezzor and in provinces of Lattakia and Aleppo. In the midst of this butchery and destruction, Assad passed new counter-terrorism laws – as if the regime has ever cared about rule of law. Navi Pillay, UN Human Rights Chief, who has previously accused the regime of crimes against humanity, warned that alll sides are violating human rights. Meanwhile, defections continue at a steady rate – with a group of 85 defectors including a general reportedly crossing into Turkey today – even as Assad’s army continues to threaten it’s neighbours, bombing close to the Turkish borders and mounting one of their frequent cross-border raids into Lebanon.
